AAC
Augmentative and alternative communication for children and families.
Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) includes everything that helps a person communicate besides speech: gestures, signs, pictures, letter boards, and speech-generating devices or apps.
Parents often worry that AAC will stop their child from talking. Research does not support that worry: AAC does not slow speech development, and for many children it supports it. Above all, it gives a child a way to be understood now.
These articles explain what AAC is, who it can help, and how families can use it in everyday life, at home, at daycare and at school.
Let's talk about what you're noticing.
